Good to know

What else you should know about me

What do bees have to do with taxes?

First of all, not much, if you don't want to get involved in discussions about VAT on agriculture and forestry or the income tax treatment of farmers. But bees have something to do with me, or rather I with them...

Yes, I do beekeeping. What does that say about me?

Firstly, that I am somewhat pain-free, because even the friendliest bees do not appreciate every treatment that the beekeeper gives them. In the long run, it doesn't always work without stitches.

Secondly, that I have a good deal of composure, because the ladies don't like stress and hectic at all.

And thirdly, that I react flexibly when my environment (in this case the bee colony) reacts differently than expected. And it does, at least initially, almost every time you lift the lid.

In order to be a successfull beekeeper, you need to closely observate the colonies and nature throughout the year. A healthy sense of humor and self-mockery is helpful in dealing with various failures.

For me, the fascinating thing about the the colony of bees is how well organized these team players always work for the good of the whole and not for the individual. A single bee is nothing without its colony, but every single contribution, no matter how small, is an important contribution to getting the colony through the bee year well.

In addition, I find it extremely meditative to just watch the hustle and bustle at the flight hole and I find few things more relaxing than listening to the melodic hum in the garden.

If you want to have a good laugh, I'll be happy to tell you about my experiences with beekeeping in theory and practice, such as why 40 DEN women's tights are not suitable as a transport cover for a freshly caught swarm, even if this is claimed on the Internet.
